What is an online barcode generator?

An online barcode generator turns letters or numbers into a machine-readable pattern of parallel lines. The result can be scanned from a screen or printed label and used to identify products, packages, books, inventory, or internal records.

This generator creates the barcode on your device, so the value you enter is not uploaded. You can control the line width and height, include the readable value, and save the result as a PNG for labels, documents, or prototypes.

Supported barcode formats

  • Code 128: A compact general-purpose format that supports numbers, letters, and many symbols. It is widely used for shipping and inventory labels.
  • EAN and UPC: Numeric retail formats used on consumer goods. The exact digit count matters, and a check digit can be calculated when the format permits it.
  • Code 39: A straightforward alphanumeric format common in manufacturing, asset tracking, and identification badges.
  • ITF-14: A 14-digit format designed for cartons and packaging that contain retail products.
  • MSI: A numeric family often used for warehouse shelves and inventory systems, with several optional check-digit modes.
  • Pharmacode: A numeric symbology used in pharmaceutical packaging control.
  • Codabar: A format traditionally used by libraries, blood banks, and some delivery services.

How to create a barcode

  1. Enter the value you want the barcode to represent.
  2. Select the format required by your scanner, retailer, or inventory system.
  3. Adjust the line width and height for the space available on your label.
  4. Choose whether to print the readable value beneath the bars.
  5. Generate the barcode, check it with the scanner you plan to use, and download the PNG.

Tip: Keep a clear white margin around the barcode and avoid stretching the downloaded image. For production packaging, confirm the required symbology, size, and print quality with your distributor or standards body.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is my barcode value rejected?

Each format has its own rules. Retail formats require a specific number of digits, while Pharmacode and MSI accept only numeric values. Choose Code 128 when you need a flexible alphanumeric barcode.

2. Are my barcode values uploaded?

No. Barcode rendering happens locally in your browser. RizCraft does not need to receive or store the value you enter.

3. Can I use the barcode on products?

You can use the generated image, but a working image is not the same as an officially assigned product number. Retail identifiers such as GTINs must come from the appropriate issuing organization, and final labels should be tested with real scanners.
