Convert BMP to JPG for Smaller, Shareable Files

BMP files often store pixel data with little or no compression, which makes even ordinary photos and scans surprisingly large. Converting BMP to JPG creates a much lighter file that is easier to email, upload, and keep in a photo library.

JPG is designed for photographs and other images with gradual color changes. Use the quality control to choose how much compression to apply; a higher setting retains more detail, while a lower setting reduces the download further.

Because JPG uses lossy compression and has no transparency channel, it is less suitable for pixel art, crisp interface captures, or bitmaps that require transparent areas. Transparent pixels are placed on white during this conversion, and all processing stays in your browser.

How to convert BMP to JPG in bulk

  1. 1

    Choose your files

Select or drag one or more BMP images. Files in other formats are automatically excluded.

Confirm the output format and, for JPG or WEBP, adjust the quality slider to balance detail and file size.

  3. 3

    Review the batch

Use the thumbnail strip to include or exclude individual images, or select and deselect the entire batch.

  4. 4

    Convert and download

Download a single converted image directly, or receive multiple converted images together in one ZIP archive.

Private, browser-based image conversion

Your images are decoded and converted locally in your browser. They are not uploaded to RizCraft, and the original files on your device are never modified.

Keep your source files when you may need to edit them again. Converting to a lossy format such as JPG can reduce file size, but repeated lossy exports may gradually reduce visible detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a JPG usually much smaller than a BMP?
BMP commonly stores raw or lightly compressed pixel data. JPG compresses photographic detail and color information, so the resulting file is usually much smaller.
Does converting BMP to JPG reduce image quality?
JPG is a lossy format, so some image data is discarded. Choose a higher quality setting when fine detail matters, and keep the original BMP if you may need a lossless source later.
What happens to transparency when BMP is converted to JPG?
JPG does not support transparency. If the BMP contains transparent pixels, this converter places them on a white background in the JPG output.
